Learning Objectives

1) Recall and implement the policies and procedures for the Processing step of bacon production at the company.
2) Choose the best course of action when confronted with common problems on the production line.
3) Continue their learning journey with additional resources.
I was contracted to design and develop this self-paced eLearning experience in Elucidat using a series of PowerPoint presentations the company had been using in instructor-led trainings. The end client, a Fortune 500 food manufacturing company, did not want the experience to include formal knowledge checks or assessments, but to illustrate each topic using scenario questions with multiple-choice answers. The correct answer would then be revealed in the form of a social poll, showing what percentage of the learner's colleagues answered the same way, followed by an explanation of why the correct answer was the best choice, and why the other choices were less correct. The correct course of action was then reinforced with a series of solution steps to be followed when a supervisor encounters the same scenario on the job.
Content Development
To help me work out the flow of information being presented, I created a Content Expansion Form as a table in Microsoft Word, pasted the raw content from PowerPoint, and revised, re-ordered, expanded, or shortened it as needed for clarity and consistency. This allowed me to plan the best way to visually represent each topic and request the needed assets. I was given creative license to select photos, videos, and interactions that would enhance engagement and visual interest. I then submitted the reworked content to the Subject Matter Experts for review, and to have them come up with specific scenario questions and answers in each topic. I then developed the approved content in Elucidat using an approved template.
Results and Takeaways
I designed this project with both user engagement and visual design in mind. Through this project I deepened my experience with the Elucidat authoring tool. This was the most recent of six projects I have done for this client, and they have asked me to be their go-to contracted ID for future projects as they are rolled out.
